“Yeah, easily...” - Transfer insider thinks West Ham star may end up at Tottenham

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that midfielder Lucas Paqueta could “easily” end up joining Tottenham Hotspur in a future transfer.

What’s the latest on Lucas Paqueta to Spurs?

At the start of the season, the Brazilian moved to West Ham United, arriving from Lyon in a club-record £51m deal. Since then, he has taken a little time to settle but now looks to be finding his feet.

For instance, on the weekend, he put in a fine display as the Hammers thumped Nottingham Forest 4-0 in the Premier League. He finished the game with one key pass, 1/1 dribbles complete, three tackles and he even hit the woodwork (via SofaScore).

Having just arrived in England, Paqueta may not be on the move yet but the midfielder may soon start to attract some interest from rival teams such as Spurs.

Certainly, when the idea of a possible move to Antonio Conte’s side was mooted on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel, insider Jones seemed to think it could happen.

Co-host Gianni Buttice said: (22:05): “Whether he’s a success at West Ham or not, I think a big club in the Premier League will come in from in the next two years.

“I’m thinking a top-six team like maybe a Spurs or someone will go this guy’s better than West Ham, we can we can turn his head.”

To which, Jones replied (22:27): “Yeah, easily. I say, when he was at Milan, it was supposed to be lift off for him. And he’s had to wait a few more years, seasons, to get to where he is right now. But yeah, we shall see.”

Could Spurs sign Paqueta from West Ham?

As alluded to above, Paqueta did get a big move to a top European club earlier on in his career but had problems adapting to his new life in Italy and so headed off to France after less than two full seasons.

At Lyon, however, he re-established his reputation – with 21 goals and 13 assists in 80 appearances – and consequently earned his big-money move to West Ham.

Seeing as he is a regular in the Brazil national team set-up and played for them at the World Cup, it’s not hard to see why some feel as though he could end up joining a club who play regularly in Europe such as Spurs.

Seeing as midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a cruciate injury and will likely need at least six or seven months to recover, Spurs may well want to add depth to that position this summer.

Perhaps Paqueta will do enough with West Ham in the coming months to earn a spot on their transfer wishlist.
