Kinksy pens new deal as Tottenham reportedly strike £85m Fernandes deal

Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky has penned a new deal with Spurs, who have supposedly struck an £85m deal to sign Mateus Fernandes. Kinsky established himself as Spurs' first-choice goalkeeper under Roberto De Zerbi last season. The 23-year-old looked to have lost all confidence when he had a shocker against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, making numerous errors before being subbed off by Igor Tudor after 17 minutes. But Tudor's successor, De Zerbi, put his faith in Kinsky, who repaid him with some solid displays towards the end of the term as Spurs stayed up on the final day. (1) new message from Toni Kinsky pic.twitter.com/MZBSPuin5E — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) June 30, 2026 He made a stunning save to preserve a point against Leeds United and then also pulled off a fine stop to deny Everton an equaliser in the last game of the Premier League season. Kinsky, who joined Spurs in January 2025, has now signed fresh terms. Spurs hav...

Prediction: Ivory Coast vs Norway

Dallas Stadium sets the stage for an enticing World Cup round of 32 encounter on Tuesday, as Ivory Coast face Norway. The African side reached this stage for the first time in their history after finishing second in Group E, while the Vikings advanced as runners‑up in Group I. Verdict: Norway win Best odds: 11/10 Bookmaker: 888sport Ivory Coast Ivory Coast have already made history by reaching the knockout rounds of a World Cup for the first time, but Emerse Faé’s side will be eager to extend their journey beyond this milestone. The Elephants entered the tournament in strong form and carried that momentum into their opening victory over Ecuador. While they suffered a setback against Germany, they pushed the group winners hard before ultimately being undone by two late goals from Deniz Undav. They responded well in their final group match, defeating Curaçao 2–0 thanks to a brace from Nicolas Pépé. That result not only secured second place in the group but also highlighted an imp...

Prediction: Brazil vs Japan

A fixture set to capture global attention, Brazil and Japan meet in one of the standout ties of the World Cup’s round of 32 on Monday evening at NRG Stadium in Houston. The Group C winners take on the runners-up from Group F, with a place in the last 16—and a matchup with Ivory Coast or Norway—at stake. Verdict: Brazil win Best odds: 37/50 Bookmaker: 20bet Brazil Brazil appear to be hitting form at the right time. After an underwhelming opening draw with Morocco, the Selecao responded emphatically with back-to-back 3–0 victories over Haiti and Scotland to secure top spot in Group C. Inspired primarily by Vinícius Júnior and Matheus Cunha, Carlo Ancelotti’s side have shown increasing cohesion in both attack and defence, winning five of their last six matches across all competitions after a patchy run beforehand. Defensively, improvements have also been evident. Brazil recorded consecutive clean sheets after previously conceding in six straight games, suggesting greater balance a...

Japan prepared for their biggest-ever World Cup tie as Brazil test awaits

Image
Japan's World Cup round-of-32 tie against Brazil on Monday will be the biggest match in the Samurai Blue's tournament history, believes Tsuneyasu Miyamoto. Miyamoto, who captained Japan at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, the former on home soil, has served as president of the Japan Football Association (JFA) since 2024. Japan finished as runners-up to the Netherlands in a highly competitive Group F, drawing 2-2 with the Oranje and 1-1 with Sweden, either side of a 4-0 rout of Tunisia. They had 10 different players register a direct goal involvement in the group stage, shattering their previous single-tournament record of eight in 2022 (across four games). Tuesday's match in Houston will be Japan's fifth in the knockout stages of the World Cup, and they have never previously won such a tie.  Three of the four teams to eliminate Japan in a World Cup round-of-16 tie – Turkiye in 2002, Belgium in 2018 and Croatia in 2022 – went on to reach the semi-fi...

Ten Hag ‘immensely proud’ to reunite with Weghorst at Twente

Erik ten Hag is "immensely proud" after FC Twente completed the signing of Wout Weghorst on a free transfer. Weghorst has signed a two-year deal with Twente after leaving Ajax as a free agent, following two seasons with the Dutch giants. The 33-year-old scored 18 goals in 53 Eredivisie games for Ajax, while he has 69 goals in 175 top-flight games in the Netherlands across spells with Ajax, AZ Alkmaar and Heracles. Weghorst previously worked under Ten Hag, who is now technical director at Twente, when the latter was head coach at Manchester United. The striker failed to score in 17 Premier League appearances during a loan spell in the second half of the 2022-23 campaign, though he did score en route to winning the EFL Cup. "We are immensely proud that Wout Weghorst is going to play for FC Twente," Ten Hag told the club website. ᴡᴏᴜᴛ ɪꜱ ᴇᴇɴ ᴛᴜᴋᴋᴇʀ ᴇɴ ꜱᴘᴇᴇʟᴛ ᴠᴏᴏʀ ᴏɴꜱ  https://t.co/oJR5hiJqeG #FCTwente pic.twitter.com/FhDjRjt4WQ — FC Twente (@fctwen...

Upamecano relishing Haaland tussle

Image
Dayot Upamecano is relishing the chance to go up against Erling Haaland as France ready themselves to take on Norway. Both France and Norway have taken six points from their first two games, meaning Friday's contest in Boston will decide who goes through as Group I winners. Haaland has been in fantastic form, scoring four goals. In fact, after netting a brace against both Iraq on MD1 and Senegal on MD2, Haaland could become only the third player in World Cup history to net 2+ goals in each of his first three appearances in the competition after Argentina's Guillermo Stabile in 1930 and Hungary's Sandor Kocsis in 1954. Norway have created 10 big chances, the most of any team in Group I and already one more than they managed in their previous participation (nine in 1998). But France centre-back Upamecano is up for the battle, and is expecting it to be a physical test. He told L'Equipe: "With Haaland, you always have to keep one eye on him, watch where h...

Former Arsenal midfielder Ramsey named Oxford manager

Former Arsenal and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey has taken on his first permanent managerial role, joining Oxford United following their relegation from the Championship. Ramsey made 262 Premier League appearances for Arsenal between 2008 and 2019, scoring 40 goals and supplying 46 assists for them in the competition.  He won three FA Cups with the Gunners before departing for Juventus, where he lifted one Serie A title and one Coppa Italia.  The Welshman also represented Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest, Rangers, Nice and Pumas UNAM during his playing career, as well as helping his country reach the semi-finals of Euro 2016. He spent three games as Cardiff's caretaker manager at the end of 2024-25, failing to prevent the Bluebirds' relegation to League One. He will now coach at that level next season, after taking over recently relegated Oxford.   "From my discussions with the club, I can sense the ambition and desire for success, which gives...

Zubimendi surprised by debate around Spain’s ‘slow’ midfield

Image
Martin Zubimendi is "surprised" by critics suggesting Spain's midfielders cannot play at a high tempo, as they look to get their World Cup campaign back on track. Spain were held to a surprising 0-0 draw by tournament debutants Cape Verde in their opening Group H match, meaning they must beat Saudi Arabia on Sunday to be in full control of the group going into the final matchday.  La Roja had 27 shots against Cape Verde without finding the net, their joint-most on record without scoring in a World Cup match (since 1966, also 27 versus Paraguay in 1998). They have now had 49 shots and completed exactly 2,500 passes since they last scored a World Cup goal, netting in the 11th minute of a 2-1 loss to Japan in 2022. Modric ‘will return’ to Real Madrid, claims Suker

Croatia legend Davor Suker believes Luka Modric will return to Real Madrid this summer, having spent just one season at AC Milan. Modric left Madrid at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, bringing down the curtain on his glittering 13-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu. During that time, he won four LaLiga titles, six Champions Leagues, five UEFA Super Cups and five FIFA Club World Cups, among his 28 major honours. Overall, he made 597 appearances for Madrid, racking up 88 assists, a tally bettered by only Toni Kroos (93) and Karim Benzema (118) during that time. When Modric joined Milan last July, he signed a one-year deal with the option for an additional year. However, the club failed to qualify for the Champions League after a late collapse, which then prompted a major overhaul, which included the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri.         View this post on Instagram                   ...

Cesar Peixoto has outlined his desire to get Wolves back into the Premier League after being appointed as the club's new head coach on Monday.  Peixoto, who has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with Wolves, arrives at Molineux Stadium to replace Rob Edwards, who was sacked last week.  The 46-year-old was most recently in charge of Gil Vicente, who he led to a sixth-placed finish in the Primeira Liga last season, just missing out on the European places.  He takes over a Wolves side that finished the 2025-26 Premier League campaign with three wins, their lowest total ever in a league campaign which saw them relegated.  Wolves will play in the Championship for the first time since 2018, though Peixoto does not intend to stay in the second tier for very long.  "I'm proud to be here at this big, historic club in England," Peixoto told Wolves' official club website.  "It's a big opportunity for me, an...

‘I don’t care’, says Torres on PSG links

Ferran Torres says he does not care about speculation linking him with a move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain. The Spaniard's contract with the Blaugrana is set to expire in 2027, with recent reports suggesting the European champions are interested in his signature. From Carrick's first game in charge – a 2-1 Manchester derby win on January 17 – no team won more games (12) or took more points (39) than United in the Premier League. In fact, he had the best points-per-game average of any manager in the Premier League in 2025-26 (2.29).
