Contact made: Villa need a £30m bid to sign "exciting" talent, imagine him and Watkins - opinion

Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Nicolas Jackson over the last few weeks and now a new update has emerged ahead of the January transfer window on the club’s pursuit of the player.

What’s the latest?

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Unai Emery can land the Villarreal winger by meeting his former player’s £30m release clause in the new year.

As per the Football Insider report, the reliable reporter claims that the Spanish club are demanding that Aston Villa pay out the player’s release clause if they want to sign him in January as they are keen to keep hold of Jackson otherwise.

It is further claimed that Jackson is a top priority target for Emery in the new year, though the manager is hopeful that the two clubs can agree a deal for a lower price after already making contact with the LaLiga outfit to register interest.

Imagine him and Ollie Watkins

Despite only recently making the move to Villa Park, there is no doubt that Emery will be keen to get stuck into making his own tweaks to his new squad when the transfer window opens up on New Year’s Day.

The former Villarreal boss has already spoken to the media about his ambitious transfer plans next month (via Birmingham Live):

“I was so excited when I arrived here and I am so excited now. I am excited with the players we have now and the players we can add in the transfer market.”

“But the January market is not really easy. It’s not easy as well to have the possibility to add players to improve the squad. But we are going to move to try and do it.”

As a result, it would be no surprise if Emery did do all that he could to reunite with Jackson in January as the Senegalese forward could be just what the manager needs to freshen up the forward line ahead of the second half of the season.

Over 13 LaLiga appearances this season, the 21-year-old talent – who was hailed “exciting” by journalist Josh Bunting – has scored two goals, registered two assists, created four big chances and completed 58% successful dribbles, as well as averaging 1.2 shots on goal and 2.2 duels won per game, despite only averaging 60 minutes per game.

Combining Jackson’s attacking prowess and ability to get into dangerous positions alongside Ollie Watkins’ eye for goal could give Emery a deadly partnership in front of goal that could be a nightmare for opponents, as the pair could really strengthen each other’s attributes.

Trezeguet, Anwar El Ghazi and Bertrand Traore were all sent packing in the summer and there are now reports that Philippe Coutinho is looking for a way out of Villa Park in the near future, the signing of Jackson could be a great opportunity for Emery to bolster his wide-forward options in the squad.

With that being said, it will be interesting to see if the Villa boss could convince his former club to part ways with their talented wide-forward next month or if the club will need to pay the full amount demanded, either way, Jackson would definitely be a great young prospect for Villa’s forward-line.
