West Ham United manager David Moyes will be sweating over the availability of his star talisman Gianluca Scamacca, who is facing a late fitness test to determine the likelihood of his inclusion in tonight’s crucial Premier League fixture against Brentford.

Signing for the Hammers from Sassuolo in a £35.5m deal this summer, Scamacca arrived with a weight of expectation on his shoulders having enjoyed an exemplary campaign in the Italian Serie A last year, where he clinched 16 goals in 36 appearances.

It has not quite gone to plan thus far in east London, with the forward’s lowly tally of two goals in the Premier League a contributing factor towards the club’s decline.

With Brentford meeting West Ham at the London Stadium, a victory would go a long way towards setting the course for brighter fortunes over the second half of the league season, and with the club currently in 16th place with four consecutive divisional losses, a further setback might indeed be detrimental.

In his pre-match press conference, Moyes said, as quoted by football london:

“Gianluca has done a little bit of training, so we will see on him. He is probably lacking a bit of match practice.”

There is a possibility, albeit unlikely, that the Irons could ascend to 13th place with a convincing win over their forthcoming league opposition, and with Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton the following opponents, Moyes has a glorious opportunity to set right the wrongs.

And with the veteran Michael Antonio producing sustained lacklustre performances this term, himself only netting twice, Scamacca will need to now live up to the price tag, and guide the club away from danger.

Brentford are both resilient and tenacious, but they can certainly unravel in the face of adversity, and with Scamacca’s cutting edge in front of goal, he can wreak havoc under the home lights and finally get the London Stadium rocking.

As per Sofascore, the nine-cap Italian averages 1.9 shots per game for West Ham in the league, scoring twice and missing three big chances; while not the most convincing numbers, the output alludes to a prosperous future if he can just combine all the elements to his game.

The 23-year-old Scamacca was lauded in the past by Paul Merson for his ability to “cause nightmares” for the hapless defenders pitted against him at his best, and he must now finally don the talismanic armour that he was signed for, and rain the goals down on the Premier League.
