“I did some asking about” - Alasdair Gold provides injury claim out of Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero was spotted struggling in the pre-match warm-ups this weekend – but it’s been suggested he was only suffering from a blister.

Is Cristian Romero injured?

The Argentinian was spotted receiving medical attention before the game on the weekend against West Ham United as the players began to warm up.

However, he was able to play despite the concerns and he played the full 90 minutes as Spurs picked up three points to take them back into the top four.

He did go down multiple times during the game which may have raised some injury concerns which is something Tottenham are not short of at the moment.

But speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has suggested his initial issue before the game started was just a blister which he was receiving treatment for by the medical staff:

“Before the game in the warm-up – I wasn’t out there at that point – but I had various people telling me, then I saw a video that he’d gone down needing treatment.

“And it was this big thing of ‘oh, he’s had another injury, he’s out’. What it turned out – I did some asking around – was that he had a blister which needed treatment.”

Is Cristian Romero essential for Spurs’ success?

It has been a turbulent campaign in the Lilywhite shirt for the defender who has enjoyed the highs away from the club after winning the World Cup over the winter.

However, he has certainly had his ups and downs this season when playing for Spurs with injury issues and a number of disciplinary concerns.

The 24-year-old has only played 14 times in the Premier League for Spurs this season as a result of his injury issues and his recent suspension picked up against Manchester City.

On the whole this season, Romero has been able to restrain himself pretty well in terms of his disciplinary record, however, in recent weeks that has completely gone out of the window.

Prior to the game on Sunday against West Ham, he had picked up six yellow cards in his previous six league games with two coming in one game.

However, against the Hammers, Spurs fans saw the very best out of Romero as the centre-back was able to rack up an impressive six clearances, four interceptions and three tackles without the referee taking his name (via Sofascore).

This is what Spurs fans – and Antonio Conte – will want to see from Romero going forward.

He walked a tightrope at the business end of last season with a build-up of yellow cards but was able to control himself to avoid a suspension.

And this is what many will hope he can replicate this season with the Argentinian showing a real reckless side to his game in recent weeks.
