Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Liverpool targets Moises Caicedo and Matheus Nunes are “two to watch” out for but their transfer valuations may be too high.
What’s the latest on Moises Caicedo and Matheus Nunes to Liverpool?
During the past January transfer market, the Reds looked to be in the market for a new midfielder with both Brighton and Wolves men being linked with the club at different points.
In fact, 90min actually reported back in the summer that Liverpool were considering a move for Caicedo. While Nunes was touted as a possible £44m target in the winter.
While speaking about the pair on the Born And Red podcast, Jacobs said they are still both players worth keeping an eye on but explained that for Caicedo in particular, a transfer may be too expensive to complete.
He said (1:15:24): “ We know about central midfield. Moises Caicedo and Matheus Nunes are still two to watch.
What midfielders could Liverpool sign in the summer?
Liverpool are expected to sign at least one midfielder this summer and Jude Bellingham will likely be the main target but he could cost around £130m. That might not leave an awful lot left in the bank for Jurgen Klopp to go out and make another signing in that part of the pitch.
Worryingly for the Reds, Brighton turned down an offer of £65m plus £5m in add-ons for Caicedo from Arsenal in the winter and they may well ask for even more this summer.
As for Nunes, it looks as though will cost upwards of £44m and if over £100m has already been spent on Bellingham, the club may opt to use any remaining money to strengthen other areas of the pitch too.
All in all, it feels highly unlikely that all three will join Liverpool in the summer but perhaps two will end up in Merseyside next season. It certainly feels unwise to rule anything out completely just yet.
